A simple exercise to get you writing.

Get yourself a special notepad for writing in - not just an ordinary one but a cloth covered book or one in a colour you love. Make it special, because your writing is special.

Buy yourself a set of fine tipped coloured pens. Try writing in different colours. See how you feel if you write in red as opposed to yellow. Different? Colour has an enormous impact on the subconscious mind. You may find that you write quite differently depending on the colour you use.

Now write for ten minutes without stopping. It doesn't matter what you write, now is the time to forget about anyone reading or criticising your work - not even yourself. There is no need for you to ever read the words you write again, but the trick is to get that pen moving and unleash your creativity.

Just write, don't think about it, just do it. I promise you will be surprised at what comes out. If you get stuck, just write 'and the next word is...' over and over again until you begin again... and you will.

This is only ten minutes, but it's your ten minutes. Treasure these moments, don't lose them. By the end of one week you will have written for over an hour. How about that!

Let me know how it goes.

    Happy writing.
